Satin spar is a fiberous variety of gypsum and is found in seams, up to 12" thick, at Coober Pedy in South Australia. Satin spar is an ideal material for carving and making unusual ornamental gem products. However, it is a very soft material and would be unsuitable for use in jewelry and articles of adornmant. Satin Spar has similar optical effects to those of ulexite, which is also called 'TV Stone' when cut through the fibers and polished on both sides. We have satin spar from Coober Pedy, South Austrlia, suitable for cutting cabochons and carving into ornamental products. |
